Learn Czech

De slaviska språken är spridda över hela Östeuropa och har starka likheter med ryska i både vokabulär och grammatik. Även om detta språk använder det latinska alfabetet, har det fortfarande nära kopplingar till andra slaviska språk som använder det kyrilliska alfabetet. Det finns ingen bestämd artikel i slaviska språk, vilket betyder att ett substantiv, t.ex. "bok", kan betyda "bok", "en bok" eller "boken".

Fun facts about Czech

Czech has several words with no vowels at all, such as krb (fireplace) and prst (finger). A famous tongue-twister goes 'strč prst skrz krk' and means 'stick a finger through the throat'.

The Czech names of months are derived from the weather and land cycles. January is 'leden' from 'led' (ice) and June is 'červen' from červený (red)- because of the red fruit in season at this time.

The word 'robot' comes from Czech (and originally means drudgery).
