Learn Indonesian

Omkring tusen språk sträcker sig mot den austronesiska familjen från Sydostasien längs Polynesien och till Madagaskar, men urvalet täcker dig för det mesta av din resa i Austronesian-området. Austronesiska språk tenderar att ha olika grad av artighet - med låg artighet för vardagligt bruk till en artig och då väldigt artig, nästan regal form.

Fun facts about Indonesian

A false friend for English speakers is 'air', which in Indonesian means 'water'.

Indonesians have a concept called jam karet (literally 'rubber time') which refers to a flexible attitude towards deadlines and appointments.

Nouns can be repeated to form plurals or express similar concepts- e.g. langit is sky but langit-langit is ceiling, and mata is eye while mata-mata is spy.
