Learn Maltese

Om du lär dig maltesiska med uTalk kommer du att tala det enda semitiska språket som är ett officiellt språk i EU. Maltesiska har lånat många ord från italienskan, sicilianskan och engelskan, men rötterna härstammar från arabiskan. Det kan vara ett första språk - det är det enda semitiska språket som använder det latinska alfabetet vilket gör att det kan lättare att lära sig.

Fun facts about Maltese

A single word might blend Arabic, Italian and English grammar: 'they type (on a keyboard)' is 'jittajpjaw' with 'tajp' from English, the '-ja' ending from Italian and the 'ni - w' parts from Arabic!

Italian loan words in Maltese often have irregular plurals copied from Arabic plural patterns: 'Snake' is 'serp' but 'snakes' is 'sriep'. 'Flag' is 'bandiera' and 'flags' is 'bnadar'! A fork is a 'furketta' but 'forks' are 'frieket'.

The word Malta is said to be derived from the Greek word for honey.
